The denomination is serving more that 10 people groups Kembata, Hadya, Welayita, Oromia, Harari, Sidama, Tigre, Guragie, Amhara, Gumuz. The strategy of evangelizing the community is empowering local churches to reach their own community. Last year more than 1500 people came to have a relationship with Jesus Christ.
76 evangelists have been recruited by local churches, and are ready to go and evangelize the unreached community of their local church neighborhood. These evangelists are getting Biblical lessons. More than 200 Bibles were distributed by local churches to unevangelized poor people.
Education
Leaders of all local churches have gotten training on different topics. Some of the major topics were Spiritual Leadership, Evangelism and Mission, Youth Ministry, Women’s Ministry, Children’s Ministry, and Old Testament Theology. All of these topics were covered in short term trainings. Curriculum has been revised and a manual is being prepared to strengthen and continue our Bible College on a national level.
Youth and Children Ministry
87 young people who are higher education students above the secondary level received encouragement training. Some of them were recent university graduates in different subject areas.
There are more than 8000 children in Addis Kidan churches all over the country. Among these children only about 3000 are receiving proper children’s ministry. At present one man is in formal training to be children’s ministry coordinator.
Pure water and Sanitation
14,500 people benefited from underground water. This water project was performed in collaboration with Compassion International. The total budget of this project was $105,263 USD. It took one year to complete.
Four successful wells were dug with appropriate technology. They benefit 120 families with a total population of 600. Each well takes three exhaustive days of work and costs only $150 USD.
Child Sponsorship
There are 8 child sponsorship projects in 8 local churches in collaboration with Compassion International. Each project serves 250 children with a total of 2000 children sponsored. These projects benefit not only children but also their families and neighborhood community. It helps a minimum of 10,000 people indirectly.
Some local churches have their own sponsorship program. One of the local churches of Addis Kidan has 200 sponsored children through a local church in the USA and Heart for Ethiopia.
Kindergarten School and Literacy program
There are 10 kindergarten schools in 10 local churches. Eight of them are organized in local church halls. There are 800 students in all schools. These schools also teach adults.
HIV/AIDS Prevention
This program is active in 8 local churches and the 8 children sponsorship projects also have activity in this area. Totally 16 local churches have this project. This program is serving more than 1600 people living with HIV. The major activities are prevention education, care and support, skill training, and a loan and resource center.
Community Health Evangelism (CHE)
As a methodology it serves to implement both physical and spiritual ministries in an integrated manner. All local churches of Addis Kidan Baptist Church have started CHE.
